Cat Killings Continue In South Florida

LAUDERHILL -- Dead cats are now showing up in Broward County.

Lauderhill Police reported Wednesday that two dead cats were found in the city in the past week -- one over the weekend, and one Wednesday afternoon in the 4700 block of Northwest 13th Street.

Alyssa Capote told Local 10's Janine Stanwood that her cat was found mutilated in a neighbor's yard.

"All of her back was gone - and then gutted up," Capote told Local 10's Janine Stanwood.

Capote's neighbor, Russell Morris, found the cat.

"It was something rough to see," Morris said.

"In this case, the animal appeared to be cleanly cut up. As far as - almost looked like someone who knew what they were doing," said Lauderhill Police Captain Rick Rocco.

"And when I seen her laying there - it was just like - I couldn't believe it," Capote said.

Her second cat is now missing. Another one of her cats has a slash to the forehead. Capote thinks it is the marking of a botched attack.

In Miami-Dade County, nearly two dozen cats have been found mutilated and killed since early April. The latest attack was reported late Tuesday night in Palmetto Bay.

On Wednesday, police in both counties were looking into the possibility that the killer in all the cases is the same person.

"Our investigators will try to contact their investigators to see if there's any kind of link," Rocco said.

Capote said she just wants justice.

"I hope they pay for it - They better hope I don't catch them," she said.

A $7,500 reward is also being offered for any information leading to an arrest. Members of the community are also coming together to raise more money for that reward.

Sorry man. Like I said, the filter on here's not perfect. I may take a$$ off the list and just rely on people to self-police that one.

The fact that the Miami Dade mutilations seem to have ceased (today being July 6th) is not necessarily indicative (that) Tyler (the suspect) was in any way involved in these cat killings - in the first place.

Are you aware there have been no shortage of similar such cat mutilation sprees - with exactly the same or very similar MO.

Surgical-precision with deliberate return and placement of remains in addition to a mysterious lack of blood. We see this time and again.

Increased public awareness and reward monies have never influenced the frequency of these attacks. Huge rewards have gone uncollected - for what is a misdemeanor (in some States).

These acts of animal cruelty stop as mysteriously as they begin. Never any arrests.

Occassionaly they have re-occurred at the same locale ? following a year or two hiatus.

Always the same or very similar MO - a certain "constellation of forensic findings".

people who treat animals like that are disgusting,esp a cat

a dog can at least bite your ass hard, cats are almost defenseless

id like to get a shot at the guy who did this, this **** sends me up the wall man

i had a cat for 15! years at least, and if someone did that to her, i woulda ate their ****ing children or something.
